The Ultimate Alternative Mini Engine

The History of the Mini began with a simple 850cc engine assembly, which worked great on the small country roads in the UK. But it was not long before the public demanded more. The most prolific of the options was a sound 998cc powerunit. The 998 was built from 1962 almost until the end of the Mini in 1992. The first of the 1275cc engines were introduced with the Cooper S in 1964. The production of these continued until the end of the Mini in 2000 and with the added performance of a 1275cc engine the demand has exceeded the supply. Our objective for this engine was to produce a cost effective engine for everyday street driving. The resulting short stroke* 1100cc, big bore engine is the best of both worlds.

The Ultimate Alternative Mini Engine from Mini Mania can now provide you the almost the same performance as the original stock 1275cc Cooper S engine from a 998cc rebuilt powerunit. The original Cooper S motor was rated at 64HP at the wheels (76HP at the flywheel) while our ultimate 998cc engine will produce 51HP at the wheels. The original stock 998cc engine was rated at 32HP at the wheels (38HP at the flywheel).

Some Technical details: Cylinder head is a ported and specially modified 12G202 casting with oversize intake valves. The pistons are 68mm or .135 overbore. Set-up with Duplex chain and engine vibration damper. A light eight flywheel was added for even faster revving.
