No problem!  Yes the higher sidewall will be slightly more compliant and theoretically a softer ride, though in a Mini that could be debatable.

Liked your pun!

I understand now. For the kind of driving that I do, I think I would be better off with the 60 series. Thanks Dan. Thanks Malcolm.  And thanks to everyone else who responded. You probably saved me from making a sizeable mistake.
Cheers!

"It's complicated" as the song said.

Here is the Tie Rack page kolsen suggested, explaining it all.

The width 165mm is the same but you will have slightly higher revs when cruising as the 55 series is a lower profile than the 60 series so it turns more revolutions per mile.
Look at tire calculator sites and compare them side by side.
165x55-12 was a Metro size I believe.

The 60 and 55 refer to the aspect ratio - the nominal height of the sidewall divided by the nominal width of the tire.
The nominal sidewall height of the 60 would be 99mm
The nominal sidewall height of the 55 would be 90,75mm

In other words, the 55 would be 8.25mm lower profile, which works out to be 8.333% lower profile
(8.25/99 = 0.8333)

The answer to your question is "yes" they will fit your wheels, assuming your rim width is appropriate for that width of tire.

Go to tire rack, they have a page that shows what all those number mean.

Just wondering what the difference was with the fit of 165/60/12 vs 165/55/12 tires? I have 60 series on the car now. Would 55 series be a problem to fit on the same wheels?
