Either way, my experience and opinion stands and it appears your anecdote falls in line.
I don't know if there's more than one RC40 manufacturer. Keith Calver did some testing of various RC40 systems (date unknown) https://www.calverst.com/technical-info/exhausts-rc40-millennium-and-others-tested/
In the article he comments that the manufacturing process had changed at some point.
In the test notes below the table of results, he says:
"Test 5 - for comparison one of the RC40 'copies' was tested. Although performance was quite good, it was still 2-3bhp down on the original. Noise levels were OK too.
"Test 6 - for the 'boy racers' I wanted to test one of the 'budget' 2" systems that abound on the market. The twin box version caused an almost blanket power loss of some 3-4bhp and the single box (Test 7) some 5-6bhp. The noise was very intrusive in all but very light throttle conditions."
Apparently there were/are copies/imitations around.

How many variations of each might there be?
You choose to fit non-standard parts you make allowances for your custom fit.
Its not rocket science.

If it is long enough to overlap, you can take it to a muffler shop and ask them to expand it to fit over the header pipe. Their machine should be able to do it in a few seconds. They may even do it for free if you tell them about your "project". If, so, the kind, thankful gesture is to drop off a box of doughnuts. (Properly speaking, the tail pipe is the last piece of an exhaust system that goes from the muffler out the "tail" of the car past the rear bumper.

Cooper header ( single outlet) to complete the system.
However once I installed the rear section (muffler and resonator) I discovered that the tail pipe from the resonator to the header was too short. And in addition it is the same OD (outside diameter) as the header. So am I missing a pipe that connects the tail pipe to the header? Or is my
tailpipe the wrong part. Kit was two pieces. Muffler, and resonator, and a short tail pipe. (Really short)
Thanks in advance
