Yeah, the research that I did states that special top caps are required to use the beehive springs.  Because of the progressive spring rate, they are also supposed to reduce lifter/cam wear and pushrod flex.  Things that might be useful in a street car.  Tempting.

Vintage Mini and GT class Mini here both use "beehive" springs, as they're known, and turn near 9k rpm.

As they say there is nothing new. Having spent 25 years in an auto machine shop pumping out 15 to 16 sets of
V8 heads a day I have seen these before. Seems to me the old Buick nail heads or maybe olds used them. In my
opinion Comp cams have always forced customers to use all their parts if any. Springs, caps and keepers are
designed not to work with anyone else's stuff. Steve (CTR)

In industry I used conical springs in a couple of applications prior to my retirement.  I had not heard of them for automotive performance use until your post.

For those like me who are not familiar with conical springs, the link below is to a marketing page promoting them and discussing their benefits for performance engines.

Performance upgrade in the American V8 world.  Anyone using them on the A series engine?
