I would think you may have a bearing or hub problem as the ball joint is fixed in place and even when they do wear the shaft should not move unless there is wear in the arm where the ball joint mounts.
Jack up the car and check for any play.

Looks like great fun. Maybe next year I'll have the doors on (and other bits sorted ) and a tow vehicle.......
