Thank you for this. I saw that thread and it sounds like what I am doing. Buckets with harnesses, smaller momo, removeable boss, etc. So lowering is probably needed and may just choose the quick release hub that is thick enough to extend the column essentially if needed or use spacers, but probably not needed. The concept for this car is keep it all original for the most part, just more power and a classic(ish) custom interior (with modern guages/etc.), but obviously setup for racing in a way that all of it can be reversed in the future if needed--so yes, will keep all of the original parts.

What do the little “suitcase” icons ...with numbers..... that appear on many but not all ...... posts mean????

Just a thought about the weld on type. The mini shaft pulls out of the column tube at the bottom, could not do this with a welded on adapter.

I don’t know why you would go with a complicated..and expensive..solution such as those in the links you posted.

Virtually any wheel you choose (certainly the “name” brands such as Momo, Moto Lita and going back further to things like Les Lestons) will have adaptors that allow you to mount their wheel on a Mini steering column using the standard Mini fittings.  Ask the wheel supplier.  The Momo Prototipo goes well in a Mini (BTDT.

Similarly for the drop bracket.  The one that Doug linked to has been a standard Mini upgrade for virtually as long as there have been Minis.  You might be surprised how limiting the two options afforded by the one in your link are when compared to the infinite adjustment offered by the traditional version.....

The hub Willie posted the link to has 2 different bolt patterns on it.  Based on appearance it looks to have both the Momo (70mm) and Nardi (73mm) patterns.  I would write the seller to confirm.  Momo and Nardi are common patterns used by a LOT of wheel makers.  You will have lots of wheel choices from many brands.  

Do NOT discard your Mk1 wheel or any parts associated with it.  There is always a market for the used parts and you may be able to offset a large portion of your new steering wheel cost by selling the original wheel.

I think the drop bracket you found looks nice... but expensive.  Mini's have a lot of room inside and many aftermarket steering wheels are smaller in diameter than stock.  Why do you think you need more drop?

You can get a hub that will fit the steering shaft. This one is MKI style, if going on a lter car make sure you get one with turn signal canceling arms. There are only 2 or 3 main sizes of the center bolt pattern so you need to know that the wheel you want to use.

Out of curiosity, if one wanted to mount a momo/etc. instead of stock (mk1), what is the best way to go?
