Lol... I almost bought a 'set up for track' classic mini many years ago... what a go-cart! and almost a cliche setup (down to the British Racing Green and Union Jack roof). I prefer small cars and the classic model definitely fits that bill - but in this case I needed a winter daily driver (75 mile commute round trip) and I'd not want to do that to a classic Mini (NY salt is hard on cars).

I'm going to guess that you have an automatic transmission...  You are correct about the lag - it is a 'feature' of the throttle by wire system. I suspect part of the problem is their attempt to optimize mpg by making the throttle 'laggy' - no jack rabbit starts...  There is also a very heavy dual mass flywheel to help smooth out the harmonics so the engine runs smoothly....

So I'm a board noob and a Mini noob. I'm a biker for the last decade (Triumph and Ducati) so generally don't do much with cars but drive them. I bought a 2017 Cooper S over the winter (to drive when weather was too bad to ride) and while it's no screamer it IS a fun and very nimble little car. Mine has one issue and I'm wondering if it's "a thing" with these cars or if it's actually a problem (Dealer doesn't think it's a problem).

Basically... there's a substantial (and annoying) delay in off idle throttle response in every driving mode. If I input say a 20-30% throttle from no throttle, there will be maybe a half second where nothing happens, then if I'm in economy the car will start gently accelerating, if I'm in normal the car will more aggressively start accelerating, and if I'm in sport the car will jerk pretty disconcertingly. This doesn't seem to happen if I'm at part throttle and abruptly increase throttle... only off idle.  

It's also pretty clearly not a turbo issue, it feels like a ride by wire issue. (I had it happen on my Duc once when the throttle was dying). My question is: is it by design (a big deadband off idle in the DBW throttle system) or do I have a dud throttle sensor? 

If it IS by design... is there a fix? I see some throttle conditioner modules for sale online but they all appear to be overly simplistic 'make the throttle ramp up faster' designs... IMO in sport mode the throttle ramps plenty quickly. This appears to be a deadband or response lag issue (more likely a deadband issue since if you're not at idle the problem doesn't happen)
