Right now just using regular 20 wait or will for the dashpot. The oil specifically for the dash pot is in route and will be here soon. I checked the dashboard and it was low on the way home. I also swapped out the fuel filter for a new one. As of right now that seems to have remedied the problem. There is a possibility of slight fowling of the spark plugs. I will keep everyone informed if it happens again.

The only thing I can think of is that you may be lightly fouling the plugs during extended warm up on tickover - okay as you pull away in the low first gear, but a bit sputtery as you put the engine under load in second and then they clear.

What are you using for dash pot oil? The wrong consistency for the age and condition of your carb can cause hesitation which may be noticeable in 2nd gear.

For clarification, it is after the engine warms up and during the very first set of gear changes. 1st gear -no problems. 2nd gear -sputters. 3rd and 4th gears - no problem. Gearing down- no problems. After that, no sputtering, skipping, cutting out, nothing. She runs like a top other than some exhaust fumes creeping in due to my exhaust pipe being a little too short at the rear (working on fixing that in the near future).

I’ll check / swap the fuel filter and see if that remedies the problem. If not then it’s on to checking / cleaning the carb. Thanks!

Only while the engine is warming up or continually throughout your drive??? Could be a leanness issue that is more noticeable in 2nd, where the engine has more torque/mechanical advantage, and not so much in 3rd and 4th. In first gear you would be giving more throttle and rpms to overcome inertia of being stopped, so it wouldn't be so noticeable.

An intermittent, i.e. once, sticking carb piston, possibly due to crude on the piston and/or chamber.

Possible there’s not enough fuel flow at idle, if there is a fuel filter try changing it out for a new one.

Good afternoon all!  I have discovered something else new that I need everyone's collective knowledge to possibly remedy.  If my Mini has been sitting for a day or two, after I start her up (and after letting her idle for a few minutes), I have found that she sputters or cuts in and out when in second gear the first time I run through the gears.  Once I am in third and fourth, and all subsequent gear changes, all problems disappear.  The sputtering is also accompanied by more than normal exhaust / fuel fumes.  This only occurs when the Mini has been sitting for an extended period of time.  Is this a fuel delivery issue, timing issue, or something else?

Also, say a prayer for me and send all the good Mini energy my way this weekend.  All the parts I ordered to upgrade / update my cooling system has arrived and will be installed this weekend.  I really appreciate it!
