Hey srry bout pic quality, the nicer pics wouldn't upload. The white black wire that is unplugged is to the right of the distributor close to the alternator.

alternator wires are tight and intact.

oil pressure switch wire is brown and white, and again currently I took off oil pressure gauge, and just have wire plugged into switch.

Car has a tach and it is working.

Today I cleaned spark plugs a bit, re-tightened, number 2 was a bit oily.I also put on new plug leads.

It took a quite a few tries to start. When it did it sounded good, for about a minute. Red light on for more than normal at start, but shut off eventually .When I gave it gas after the minute then I'd hear some popping/ and or putting noises, and idle acted a little jumpy, so I shut off.

Please post pictures of what you described above.

I am not familiar with cars as late as yours.  On the earlier cars, the red light is a charge warning indicator.  It indicates that the alternator is not working and has nothing to do with the oil pressure switch or sender.  When taking pictures of the wiring, check that the wires in the alternator plug are intact and that the plug is fully seated in the alternator.

As built, your car would have an oil pressure switch, not a true "sender".  When you were fitting the new gauge you will have removed and reinstalled the oil pressure switch in your T fitting.  The oil pressure switch wire is white/brown.  Make sure that's the wire you put on the switch.

I have one schematic labeled for 1988 and later carbed models.  It shows there are two white/black wires.  One goes between the coil and distributor, the other goes between the tachometer and the coil.  Does your car have a tachometer and if so is it working?

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to classic mini and not very knowledgeable, so any advice would be appreciated.
So my mini was running fine, I think it's a 1990,1275 w/ carb. I decided to install an oil pressure gauge, I used steel line, and t piece. After starting the car after this, it ran really rough, and red oil lite was on unless I gave it gas. I tried tinkering with fittings to make sure nothing was screwed in to tight preventing flow to sensor, still the same results. A few days later I took off gauge put, back to old setup with a newoil pressure sensor. It ran a bit better, and red light was not illuminated. However it still sounded like it was misfiring at low rpms, and felt like it would stall. Drove it once around the block with high rpms, felt sluggish. I did disconnect the coil from wiring when installing gauge to gain better access. I'm almost certain, everything is back were it was. However I do have one white/black wire that is not plugged in to anything, hanging off the loom closer to the alternator. The other white and black wire is plugged into negative end of coil. Any ideas of what could be wrong? and what I should do to troubleshoot? Thanks
