Thanks for the information. Seems like I have to find headlight assemblies that are stock for the 2009 Cooper.

Sorry, not an easy replacement - at least we are not aware of an 'easy way'. Aside from the different wiring harness, the factory Xenon HID lights also:

uses an additional controller module for each headlight 
uses a front and rear level sensor with additional wiring
requires software to 'enable' the Xenon lights

I have a random question, and I am afraid I already know the answer.  I have a 2009 mini cooper with two halogen headlights (4 wire harness).  I have access to 2008 mini cooper S HID headlights (9 wire harness).   

The question is - is there an easy way to use the 2008 HID in the 2009 halogen?
