Well, I know the 2005 U.S. model has a fob sealed by the manufacturer. They don't want you to be able to replace the battery. It's a rechargeable battery that charges in the ignition switch. But, you can cut around the middle of the fob with a thin blade to break the seal. The battery is soldered to the board. The new battery has the required prongs to be soldered on. But I think there's two different types, with the prongs in different locations. I didn't want to tear mine apart and order the battery until I knew which one I needed.

Dan.. when my key FOB went dead on the MGF.. I had to call www.remotealarms.co.uk in england. and get the tool to reset the password.. cost about 100 quid.. later bc

The fob on the keys to my Mini don't require batteries. It is also interchangeable between vehicles without reprogramming. It is impossible for any thief's scanner to steal any codes from it too.

Does anyone know if the 2005 R52 Key Fob takes the 90 degree or 180 degree VL2020 battery ? Thanks.
