Jim,
I"m gonna suggest that you make up some spacers between the sheet metal body and the bumper mounts. Block it off what ever you need to get the tire to fit.  OR, you could deflate the tire a bit, install it, and then reinflate it.  If you get a flat, let the air out of the spare to get it past the bumper, put it on the car and then pump it up.  Ha ha ha. Just joking here.  Use some spacer blocks.

Matt: your Dad Robin was such a perfectionist, l remember the first time he laid eyes on Barb as l towed her into your driveway in North Royalton Ohio, not sure if he wanted to cry or scream !

History and memories, what else is left ?

You do know that "Barb" had the rear bumper extended a "?" of an inch.  It was done when the car was getting redone.  It is still tight but it fits.

not yet.. I have to try MiniCord's idea. as of right now I had to take the PSI down to about 20 lbs to get to fit between the car and the bumper.

One trick is to get a longer bolt and mount the tire the other way around.

The longer bolt allows for a bit of play and will go on a slight upwards angle which allows the tire to get raised enough to fit better.

Here's my Moke as an example.

The way is installed is right.

The tire is just too wide, originally they came with byass ply tires which were narrower.

Yours looks like a 165/70, the 145/80 fits better.

It looks to me like a wider tire than was originally put on genuine Mokes.

You have to use a left hand drive spare tire to get it to fit.

spare tire question.. am I doing this right. there is that bumper and the tire goes between the bumper and the car.. it is really tight and the only
way I Can get the tire in there is to take quite a bit of air.. and it is still very tight..

is this correct. see pictures
