These headlights are basically plug and play too. You do have to cut / trim the inner floating bucket a little because the heatsink is more rectangle. Mine was easy peasy because it is plastic. The older buckets are metal. A dremel did the work in a couple of minutes. For the Daytime Running Lights, you need to find the keyed spade on the fuse block - top right and run the wire. Just adjust your aim at night against a wall and drive.

This is one of the best upgrades to my mini. Still lovin' them.

I am using LED headlights and also replacement LED bulbs on all the rest of the lighting.. they are bright, but have a good cutoff, top and sides..  they are plug and play, although mine also have an outer ring that I have hooked up as Daytime running lights, something required for all cars here..  Lot's of selection as the Jeep guys use them..

If the LED replacements use the same type of beam pattern as the sealed beams, with just a better light output, then maybe I'd be interested in upgrading. That said, I recently rented a new Corolla with the thin LED headlights, and I was very underwhelmed. They had such a sharp cutoff at the top of the beam, that it was like shining headlights under a partly open garage door. There was absolutely no bleed-over, just light at the bottom,  darkness above. It was really disconcerting to not be able to see anything above the cutoff line. Honestly, I felt like they might have been defective. I wouldn't want to drive very far in the dark with those.

I will try take some pictures and try to post.If you are interested in seeing the light bulbs before I get to do my thing. Type in ebay "DOT approved 7 LED headlight" and start from the highest price and work backwards you'll see the light. They aren't the bug lights with the many LEDs. In the middle of the headlight is a 1 1/4 light that goes across the inside of the bulb. There is a red jeep in the sellers page. The seller shows pictures of the headlight working in a parking lot garage. It is very similar to the new Jeep Rubicon LED headlight except costs 80% less. Really a great light. I enjoy driving at night again.

I run the Morimoto LED H4 replacements in my standard Wipacs. They work as they should brighter, whiter, lower draw, and not blinding to oncoming drivers. Expensive but pretty simple plug and play. //www.morimotohid.com/led-bulbs.html

My search has ended. I've found a LED headlight that I'm extremely happy with. Looks similar to the new Rubicon Jeep LED. It lights the road way better than the Wipac halogens and doesn't wash out with out coming traffic. Has a definitive cutoff line that doesn't blind on coming cars. Now I feel comfortable driving at night which before I would avoid. I'm very Very VERY happy with these LED headlights.

LED headlamps shoud be illegal - hideously offensive to drive towards, and damaging to the eyes too.  Medical professionals are not allowed to use LED pencil torches to check pupil response for a damn good reason.

I find I can see better with halogens anyway due to more 'splash' around the edges of the beam pattern.

LEDs and modern lamps have a much more distinct cutoff and I find that there is a harsh light/dark boundary which leaves you feeling blind.

How easy were they to install? I have a 1972 Canadian-spec Mark III Mini...

The only reason I haven't changed to LEDs is that I'm so satisfied with my WIPAC halogens.  They have a really good lens and reflector and you can use any H4 bulb. And they are super bright especially when aimed correctly.

Check out steveston motor Co I got 7" leds for mini  they are fabulous. Also they are halo amber or white.

I  have the wipac halogens. I think you will be disappointed with halogens. A flashlight is brighter than the Lucas Standard headlight.

Curious about Morimota  or the trucklight  brands.

That is certainly a lot brighter than the standard Lucas beam. I have been tempted to get one of these P700 replica sets, but was wondering how they would compare to the Led system

I am. Using the VC3500 kit from Vintage Car LEDs. Had them for about a year on the car. Quite a bit brighter than the stock incandescents they replaced. The coloring is much cooler on the color spectrum than the incandescents - so they aren't going to look as "original" when they are on - but look relatively stock otherwise when they are off.
