Thanks all for the swift answers. I got my hands on a full set of Rover vacuum lines, and they are in the process of going on. I have also borrowed an SP code reader, just in case it can give any useful info. With the underbonnet layout on mine, I had to pull the ECU to get a hand on the one on the bottom, so I should be also ruling out any loose connections there. I'll post if successful, and I'm sure Rachel will post an "in Memory" post for me if her car doesn't get fixed....

What vacuum lines did you use Alan? Factory or aftermarket?

This subject has appeared several times. Of coarse, everyone chimes in with the replacing elbows. 7 in total. Fuel trap blow out. Good advice. I had to replace the O2 sensor. A Bosch universal will do the trick 4 wire . very cheap You can test the water temp sensor institu with a multi meter. Any resistance means that it is good.

Our 94 Japanese Rover SPI is misfiring/bucking badly under load changes. It's not immediately apparent when blipping the throttle with no load on, so without a code reader its very hard to diagnose in the garage. I have replaced all vaccuum lines, and just replaced the tank, fuel pump, and filter as there was considerable corrosion in the tank and filter. Adding to the "I don't think it's the vaccuum lines" argument, the idle is low,(frequently settling around 500) not high as it should be with unmetered air in system. It is a bit variable, but if it was a carb car my first suspicion would be dashpot issues. I'm not sure which of the injection componenets would give the same behaviour..
