Humm, after looking at it for several months it could be the 11 slats that have carried over to the MKIII. I will check...

I've been putting my bodywork skills to work the past few days hammering out the surrounds and securing the fins on the factory original.
Blue Devil polish is amazing.
I figure that is best since pretty sure it's been attached to the old '68 for all these years. I am becoming happy with my work and will read over Richard1's article, thank you. It must be good original plating because it hasn't flaked like a lot of cheaper plate jobs do.

Look up "Chrome" under Forum search, A post by Richard1 covers what can be done to restore old bright work Like your original grill. Even if you don't want to tackle it, it's a good read.

You'll be hard pressed to find a NOS grille from 1968. Easier to find a nice used one ( but no gaurantee it's from 68 ). I'm sure one of the suppliers must make a good reproduction.
Was MkII eleven slats?......didn't that carry through MkIII production, even the MkIII S

NOS (New Old Stock) which I understand as surplus parts made the same year as the car, but never sold.
My purpose is not to restore with unoriginal parts, but rather just refurbish by retaining as many original parts as possible,
but when not possible, finding NOS parts.

Do you mean NOS or OEM ?
Pattern grilles from one of the big suppliers are shocking, and anything that is powdercoated will need looking at in a few years (which is most of them) but OE stuff generally fits much better.

I would think they would put a premium price on a NOS grill. Probably not many of them sitting around still in a wrapper.

If they were original NOS they would command a better price than what they are asking.

Exactly what I was looking for. I have purchased from them, but forgot. Usually I go to Mini Mania, but can't see if these are knock-offs.

Are those NOS? I have a lot of Mini mania parts on it and can get a grill for a cheap price. I just thought someone may have a UK NOS one somewhere.

My '68 Austin Mini has an original grill that is much for the wear. I have been able to tighten some of the fins with tiny screws but a small past-owner accident has blemished the surround on the right side and I would like to replace it with an excellent original grill assembly of correct vintage and not after-market. Does someone have one for a decent price? I am restoring her under the long-term installment plan and figure by this time next year she will be mint, but the grill and a warped left fender is hindering my progress.
