IANACALE (I am not a California automotive law expert)  My current understanding is that direct foreign-to-California cars have to be '68 or older, cars '74 and older registered in other states can to California.  But that "understanding" is what I think I have from reading posts here on Minimania!  So YMMV and caveat emptor in spades!

'wolf, I will be going up to Mini Kingdom tomorrow for a visit. Their catalog is a must for owners of Australian Minis and Mokes - great exploded parts diagrams of the things peculiar to Australian vehicles.

If I had the time, money, and a 40 foot container, maybe I could make some money shipping Mokes back.  But good Mokes are nearly as expensive here as in the U.S., and shipping costs pretty well eats up any cushion.  Also, few Mokes that are California legal seem to be available, most are the later galvanized models.

Looks like it was an excellent outing. We have fond memories of our trip to Australia, east coast Sidney to Townsville. We went to Magnetic Island to rent a Moke but were told they were all out. Needless to say after a half block driving in our rented Ford Fiesta we passed a few for rent privately. Thanks for sharing your adventure. Australia is calling again...

Ron

Greetings from "Mokin' Jervis Bay", which is wrapping up this morning after a week of Mokes, Moke, and more Mokes touring the local sites and local roads (some pretty much jeep trails). About 50 Mokes attended, most seemed to be the later galvanized body models we aren't allowed to have in California. Many absolutely beautiful and restored, some 'rough and ready'. A number of owners have two Mokes, "one for the street, one for the bush".

As the lone American here on my first time in the country, I got treated like some visiting dignitary (well, I know better). I got to ride in a variety of Mokes with a variety of owners, some of whose Australian English I could understand!  And while Vegemite consumption was encouraged, it was never forced upon me.

This area south of Sydney is as beautiful as the people here.  White sand beaches, mountains and hills, pretty little historic towns, great roads.

Wonderful country, wonderful people.  I'll be back!

Since I have never figured out how to post pictures here, this is a link to my shared Google Pictures album: https://photos.app.goo.gl/3kLWBbGZhQ1xXjZG3
