I took at look at the eBay global shipping center link. It seems it is meant for sellers, not buyers (sellers can easily dispatch their goods to international sellers.) It doesn't appear to offer an option for buyers (such as an option to make the shipping center appear as an alternate address.) It would have been cool if it did.

If the sellers would avail themselves of this service, it would be great. Maybe it's not publicized well or eBay's cut is too high - I don't know.

Ask for them to use the eBay global shipping center, that way the seller only has to ship within UK. https://sellercentre.ebay.co.uk/private/global-shipping-programme

That's very kind of you, Alex. I've contacted the seller to see if he'll ship to a UK address. If he agrees, I will gladly accept your generous offer. About a day and a half left on the auction.

thanks,

Dave

Well, I asked the seller if they would ship to USA and they said no (too much trouble if there's a dispute.) So he/she was probably a veteran seller.

My unscientific observation is that this is more prevalent than it was 5 years ago, when I last was buying parts from the UK on eBay on a somewhat regular basis.

Unfortunately, the module I'm looking for is specific to the S-type (also usable on the X-type.) I actually have found a number of US sourced modules for X100 XK's and XJ8's, but only once has a S-type module come up (and I deemed it useless because it didn't have the input adapters.) Still sold rather quickly though.

My guess is that the US sellers/parts breakers don't necessarily recognize what they have as well as the UK/continental folk. I may have to see if any of the continental sellers are more liberal about shipping overseas.

I was hoping there would be some 3rd party eBay services that would supply a UK address for shipping purposes, but haven't found one yet...

I've had success in bidding on UK-only auctions, giving a UK address and then when I win asking if it can be shipped to the US.

Of course, this supposes that you have a UK shipping address and are willing to have the item sent there if the seller doesn't agree.

I haven't sold on eBay for many years, certainly not since they changed the rules to be completely in the favour of buyers - hell, you can't even leave negative feedback for someone who stiffs you.
I have friends who do sell a lot, and they will not post anything untracked and won't ship abroad unless the buyer is 'known' in the Mini community.  To many times people have simply claimed that stuff hasn't turned up and PayPal/feeBay just automatically refund the buyer.

There's one on ebay here. https://www.ebay.com/itm/13-RANGE-ROVER-Jaguar-XJ-XF-Audio-Satellite-Radio-Control-Module-CH22-14C740-BA/263316730204?hash=item3d4ee6715c:g:gc0AAOSwPDBaB7uX&vxp=mtr I've bought from this guy before and had no problems.

Thanks for the replies. In this case, it's not a Mini part, it's an audio connectivity module for a modern Jag (to plug external audio devices into the stereo system.)

It seems like this is more common than it used to be. Years ago, most sellers would ship internationally and the one UK-only Mini item I had to have (a ACR2 SPI diagnostics module) a UK forum member was kind enough to bid on my behalf and ship to me. But that was a fairly inexpensive item and this probably will be north of $200 USD, I would guess.

Some items I know are a pain to ship overseas - I once bid on an alloy turned metal Mini 3-clock dash and a gear knob. Only the gear knob showed up. I inquired, and the money for the dash was refunded promptly, no comment. Rather strange, my guess is the seller didn't want to ship the dash overseas but still wanted foreign bids.

Thanks,

Dave

Bought an interior set about 12 years ago, seats, cards, paid for "extra wrapping" which consisted on 1 layer of brown paper, luckily the set made it after travelling from the UK to Baltimore, sitting there for 2 weeks, then to Jacksonville before ending up in a warehouse in Medley, dirty but after a good cleaning, they looked great,  just be up front with that you expect from the seller

I have done just that for some of the MK 1 board guys. I no longer sell or ship anything in that direction. There may be one or two guys I'd make an exception for. Cost of and pia doing paper work isn't worth it.

I bought a small part from the UK this week part 60 lbs shipping 28 lbs and I very happy the seller was willing to handle it for me.

I don't know what parts you may be looking for but you could check with me. My Mk 1 parts collection has swollen beyond space, I'm in the mood to sell. Steve (CTR)

I used to do it quite a lot, even with big stuff that would then get incorporated with our next shipment of parts.

What is it ?

Occasionally I find an interesting part on UK eBay auctions, but they will only ship to the UK. Not overseas, and they explicitly state this.

Any tips on how to get around this? I had thought there might be bidding agents that might bid and take delivery on your behalf in the UK, then reship to the USA. I’ve heard of such services in the US for non-US buyers but haven’t found anything like this for the UK or Europe.

Hopefully some veteran parts hunters have come up with some workable solutions.

Thanks,

Dave
