back in 1975 to 1981 VW made a compact scissor jack, about 4 inches X 6 inches base.

As above. Honda jacks are readily available and good. Don't let the junk yard over charge you. No name and Harbor Freight scissor jacks are available for around $20 new.

Junkyards have Honda scissor jacks by the bushel. I picked up mine for $10 including a handle. Very happy with it.

I have a old Allegro one in the boot of Betty for emergencies - decent sized base and still has the Leyland sticker on it.
