Sure I could have had them sent by rail to Halifax. But then I still need the Mini trucked to PEI. So I still am at the mercy of others. I figured one mover was sufficiently complicated ; I didn’t want to make the operation even worse by bringing in a second party. Easy peasy.

I can’t quite figure out why you wouldn’t have your mokes shipped to Halifax port ? In any event , I’m glad you have found your calling. Mokes are every bit as much fun as Mini sedans, if not as practical. I enjoyed driving one while on holidays in Barbados. Cheers, Derwood.

I shipped to Halifax on new years eve in 1997 .. was -30F. and the crazy bastards.. had block party OUTSIDE..  snowed 5 FEET of snow later that week.. was stuck at the SPLIT CROW in Halifax for a month.. and wonder tour to ROb at mini man to take the minis apart and  motor vehicle parts..  I got 52 calls the first week when I got back to NC about the minis.. I knew I had found a NEW JOB.. later bc

Hi Big Al. Glad to hear that you are having some fun under the sun ! That was quite a change in direction...from Pamela Anderson to Rosie O’Donnell ! Lol ! I hope that if this affects my dreams tonight, it is in Pamela’s direction , and not Rosie’s ! Yikes !!

“ derwood..so WHEN is the long awaited DELIVERY?? bc “. Well I should have a date by this time tomorrow bc, but I expect that 2 weeks should put it in my hands. Once on the transporter things move much quicker than the oh-so-long wait for pickup that small town Canada can sometimes expect. BTW- what’s with the PINK Moke ?? That must be your wife’s I suspect ? A rather bold choice, but one can get away with that on a Moke easier than virtually any other car ?? Do tell...

Cheers all, Darren.

Thanks for the tip malsal. I will do just that. I have to say that I am genuinely the odd-man out on the black grille, but if I could post a few pics of the silver ( do you folks consider it silver, or a shade of gray ? ) cars that really caught my eye I might convert a few. But perhaps not , as what we like and don’t like on a Mini or any car is a very personal thing. I see people spending 500,000$ US for Hemi Superbirds and I think they are ugly. Very very fast, but still ugly to my eyes. I do appreciate the fact that you can offer an idea that is not a concern money-wise. This car will be driven. Same goes for your idea, malsal, of simply touching up those “ elephant-in-the-room “ grommets. I will be simply touching them up with a matching silver ( grey ? ) paint and not going to the expense of having them welded over and repainted. I see myself being content with that. If they eventually bother me, then sure , I will cough up ( like a furr ball ) the ~ 500 to 1000$ to have them professionally done. Or I can simply view them as a sign of the cars past and a reflection that there was once a pair of wing mirrors on the car. Not a big deal for me. Freckles vs beauty spots etc. Wow, I really rambled on with that Lol. The car is very solid, decent looking , and I expect it to be a hoot to drive. That’s the bottom line for me. Thanks again for the suggestion malsal...time to start a new thread on dashpot oil. Cheers friends, Darren. PS- I received all of the necessary paperwork to change the registration from Japanese to Canadian today. A small step, but it means that I am closer to my dream today than yesterday. Soon the car will be in my brothers garage and I will be tooling with it and waiting for the spring to arrive.Zoom zoom.

Malcolm: Correct on all points but l’d rather be sipping margaritas with Pamela Anderson that driving the Andersen Cub

Not really, just dreaming, with my luck, l’d wake up and it would be Rosie O’Donnel In the nude

A cheap way to try the grille black is to put electrical tape over a few of the slats and see how it looks, you could also consider a darker grey just a thought as all of it is easily reversible.

Big Al is on vacation for 3 weeks laying by the pool sipping Margaritas watching all the beautiful women in Kissimmee Florida, you may hear about him on the news with a possible sexual harassment suit if so he will be heading for the border in an Andersen Cub .

Regarding the fender grommets , at the most I will be painting then body colour, or placing fender mirrors on the car. With a car that has no bondothat I can detect ( yes , I know I haven’t seen it up close) it won’t be touched by any of it , or sandpaper etc. It can stay solid but imperfect. I’m ok with that. The black grille. Nobody thinks black goes well with silver eh ? Well , I’ll just save the wavy chrome grill and trade it at a swap day some time. Having spent a lot of hours looking for something to compliment the silver without repainting the roof black or white , i’ve decided that I like silver with black. Plain silver is, well...plain. Car is to be loaded tomorrow. She’s coming hope to papa , werewolf !! Anybody want to trade some mini item for a wavy mk1 grille ? Cheers, Darren.

PS- Big Al....did you move the Countryman woody yet ? Just curious...

My vote is the wavy grille. Now let's move on to the elephant in the room. How will you get rid of the 4 holes in the fenders? My vote goes to; fibre glass patch under the holes, then fill the hole to near level with epoxy. After a light sanding of only the epoxy,a dab of paint. That would do the job till you have some spare time to weld and repaint the fenders. Cheers

+1 to Spitz's comments. I have the Mayfair black grille and agree it isn't the most attractive colour or style. (See your thread about grille buttons.)

Hey, thank you all for the general thumbs up. I’m pleased with it....although I have yet to see it. But it had a number of features that I wanted , so it was finally time s*** or get off of the pot ! Thank you for posting these pics for me Debbie, very much appreciated. Amongst some other things, i’ve ordered a black grille for it today....silver with black accents is going to be the basic scheme. Also I’ve ordered the standard twin black bonnet stripes and the black checkerboard roof decals. I’m undecided on the wheels...I’ll have to see how they clean up...but they won’t be changed, just possibly refinished and possibly a shadow finish to them. It will be getting grey dash cards for some interior contrast as well as the mk1 and 2 black standard shifter knob. That is quick shift lever on it. This likely gives you gentlefolk an idea of the look i’ve decided to pursue. There is a chance that the checkerboard silver/black roof may not happen ( nor the twin bonnet stripes even though both are ordered ) and some variety of single or double striping may possibly run the length of the car including bonnet, roof, Boot door, and rear valance. If I go this striped route, they will be wide....at least 8 inches if single....and they will be gloss black. Quick release black knobs will be holding the black grille in place. No other exterior pieces will be ordered until these pieces are used. A passenger side mirror is needed, so that could spur me to go with non-bullet style mirrors...or a mate to the one on the drivers side will be sourced. That is her. Cheers friends !
