Deb
Just emailed you what I believe to be Art Junior's phone number.  A few years back he called me looking for some used tires for a Cooper 'S that he had inherited and was trying to get it rolling so he could sell it.

Thank you, I'll see if I can find someone fluent in French to help me write an email.

I just thought since there were references in this thread to Mini Owner's South that someone here might recognize the car.  I figured that there couldn't be that many members of the club who purchased a 1968 Mini Cooper S when new owned it until 2005.  I guess it doesn't ring a bell to anyone.  Thanks again.

Deb.. on the DMV archives files.. for NC DMV.. you just need to send in the $10  and MVR 605.. but in georgia.. gets bit tricky since.. pre 1985 cars do NOT have be titled..  you can ONLY get GA title if this chain has NOT been broken..  will  look up the from number.. later bc

Thank you for the advice. I already purchased the BMIHT certificate.  While it has the engine number and other good info.  It does not list the data on where it was sent after manufacture.  It state "unknown."

Not to hijack this thread.  I have a similar question about what I believe was a long time Mini Owners South member.  I recently purchased a 1968 Morris Mini Cooper S that has a Mini Owners South sticker on it.  I don't have his name however my understanding is he owned the car from new in 1968 until it was sold at the RM Auction at Amelia Island in 2005.  I think he purchased it in France (still has the French license plate) and somehow imported it as a 1967 Morris Mini Cooper.  I would really like to learn more about my cars history however the person who bought it in 2005 and sold it to me through another auction had all their records confiscated as part of an unrelated Federal investigation.

I wanted to include a picture but can't figure out how to insert it into this post.  My car is white with a black roof.  It also has a Historic Sportscar Racing, Ltd sticker on the rear window.
Thanks

Can you ask your dad if this was after 1981? The car in question was Tartan Red 2 and black. Sold in July 1981.
thanks

The car was Tartan Red with a black roof.
It did not have flares. Maybe added after?
Any pictures?
Thanks

Deb-
There's some old Atlanta/ MOS people on this thread from a couple of years ago...
//www.minimania.com/msgThread/117655/1/1/Atlanta_Area_Owners_and_Clubs

I seem to remember the car you were talking about, if it's the same Lee (don't remember his last name, but I remember his car). Was the car more of a burgundy with black roof?

Talk of the Run Offs of that era, I think I spent most of my weekends as a kid getting lost in the kudzu patches at Road Atlanta, while god knows how many cars buzzed by me. My father worked for a guy who raced, Hubert Duprez (yellow mini, later Datsun B210) and knew pretty much everyone there at the track. He was heavily involved with MOS from the beginning. I remember the chilli cook offs and the smell of the house for the three days leading up to them. They didn't mess around when it came to chili....

I'll see if dad can remember Lee's last name. Or who that might have been!

*EDITED/ ADDED

The guy's name was Lee Wilson. Right after he got back from Quebec, he had the engine rebuilt by dad's shop, The Starting Line. Dad said he had it for a few years and then sold it on to finance his Formula Ford habit.

He told me a funny story about following Lee over mountain roads in North Georgia. Lee has his arm sticking straight out of the window, looks like he's holding on to something. Dad pulls up alongside: Lee's holding onto the front wheel arch chrome trim piece, making sure it doesn't come any further off the car!

I am pretty sure Art passed but his son is alive.

Mini Owners South was always present at the Run Offs and together with the Ohio Mini Owners they would put on the great chilli cook offs... good times..Belch fire Chilli....

Will email Dean Meyer in Georgia and see if he knows anything...

thanks
Deb

Bill, He was blond . We saw the car at Road Atlanta in the late 1980's and it was not well taken care of. In fact it had a  broken mirror at the time and the guy was camping at the track.

Do you have a last name? Maybe Wilson. Knew a guy in the early 80's that had a mini that could have been it. Was the guy on the SHORT side? He was a cornerworker at Road Atlanta that I worked with several times.

Bill,
Will be able to get the VIN but based on  on-line searches they require 17 digits which is not the case. So on line searches have been unsuccessful. Any one in Georgia able to help?
