I guess I should say I have big K&N filters on the stub stacks.  They are 5 inch diameter  by 3 inches tall with a 3-1/2 inch mouth opening.  Its the biggest ones I figured would fit.  A cone shape would probably have given slightly more filter surface area, but everyone has cones.  And they are held on with the hose clamps that came with them.

Spitz, no there is a hose clamp holding them on (see the left one in the pic).

Kat....are those filters just friction fit over the stacks?

I like that set-up

I have proper K&N cones on my twins.

I have a dual brake master....but all I had to do was bend a pipe a little....they fit fine!

Will the cone type filters fit the twin SU? Can you give me a part number, there are so many too choose from, thanks. I forgot to say I also made plugs for each port on the carbs.

Unless you like the roar of the intake you will need some kind of filter, i would definately run filters on a road car.

I got the carbds installed after a major cleaning and shortening of the linkage. It idles much better still got to drive it on the road so far so good I just need to buy some velocity stacks and still debating if I need an air filter since the car get less than 500 miles a year

If our host does not stock them joecurto.com in NY has everything for SU's, be sure to get four new retaining screws as well.

Thanks, I could not center the butterflies to completely cover the body. I shortened the linkage and it looks great and moves freely. I stuck my finger into the manifold hole and it seems lined up properly. I am soaking the carbs in paint thiner to clean them and put them back into the car and pray it idles properly.

Is there a place where I can buy new butterflies?

Your'e welcome. I was just making sure you have tried all the various steps that i would do with the same problem. I would not personally connect it to the cam follower covers as they are usuall connected to the valve cover, if the engine is breathing good just connect them together which imo looks better than plugging them unless you use the correct aluminum plugs. If there is no massive amount of play in the throttle shafts the problem has to be in the :

Butterflies

The too long shaft that connects the two carbs

The manifold where it seats against the head

Pistons sticking (which i believe you said were ok)

My guess would be the manifold as you do not have the metal o rings and it is a bit of a guessing game to line it up but it is just a guess and hard to diagnose from a computer screen.

The connecting rod is binding so you need to shorten it slightly so there is a little play when the carbs are bolted up. The manifold is difficult to get "centered" without the locating rings and is more or less trial and error, if you just installed it and tightened it up there was probably and air leak there. Sorry this is so long winded but i am just trying to give you all the problems that you do come across when installing twins.

First you are of great help and it is well appreciated. I connected the vent tubes together and connected it to the cam follower cover breather. Do you think it would be better to plug the vent tube holes? I backed up the fast idle screws until they were not touching anything. There is some light even when closed and I will try to center it properly. I will stcik my finger into the manifold hole and see if I can center it against the hole on the cylinder head. I had to cut the butterfly on the linkage because it touches the manifold before I cut it.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

I realized that when I installed the carbs and the car was running I sprayed throttle body cleaner on the outside of the carb to clean it and the idle did not change. Anyway here are pictures of the carbs dismantled again.
