craig..  yea..  it sounded like you had your panties in a twist yesterday.... btw  I think I really pissed off some hedge fund CEO yesterday..from NYC    every one wants these new mokes from china. BUT I tell. them coming in PERSON is MUST..  no exceptions .. as I do NOT want to be MARRIED to them if they find something about these mokes that they do NOT like..after they pay and get them delivered..   always best to spend the money and look and drive in PERSON.   and you would think RAFAEL1068 .. would have asked about CARB / Calli DMV questions BEFORE he  bought his classic mini?? later bc

You're right BC. I was not in a good mood yesterday and there was nothing about the seller but the comment about just having to smog it and he'd be ready to go. Titling here in California can be very confusing, but anyone who is going to bring a car into the state should surely do their homework before doing so.

Oh , the seller is a lady?and a US Army?? I think she's really honest and really dont have any intentions of scamming you at all, will spare her for now  lets just consider this as a lesson to anyone who lives in california and who wants to own a classic mini, California MVD has  a lot of ridiculous laws, smog test or whatever, AND they allow to register old vintage cars BUT dont allow 1980 up cars to be registered , i dunno why??!!!!   Which gives out more smoke?? The   newer cars or the older cars???we dont have that headache here in arizona, i dunno why Ca is so anal about it, lol. And also in california tax is insane, they say cost of living is high, thats why i decided to live in Az and just drive 175miles to california if i feel the itch to see beaches and green trees but living there with these MVD laws??? Nah!!! Too much headachhe for me , i cant even register my pink scooter there,LOL

US
put a picture up here  with the specs from the advert that the seller used. Since this is an international community, there could be a buyer in a neighboring state which would facilitate an easy sale without the heavy trucking costs.

We appreciate if you can post pictures of the person who sold that car to you, and post his name too so everyone will be aware and same mistake can be avoided.
Is he a member of this forum? if he owns a mini im sure he is a member of a mini forum or group.

Right, sorry that you have been seemingly taken advantage of by a apparently rotten liar. I'd list it for auction on Bring a Trailer (bringatrailer.com); Minis are showing up there very often with good results. Give it a look and let us know.

As Bill said, you should've done your homework prior to buying. Good luck with your sale, just make sure and put in your ad that it can't be registered in California. Hope you don't have a fortune tied up in your new lawn ornament...

rafeal1068.. it is buyer beware..  you should have done your homework about Calli DMV and CARB..I do NOT think you can register anything newer than 1 Jan 68 on direct imports now..  1 jan 76 on cars already in the USA  with US titles.   fyi    on my dealer contract I put in BOLD letters. this will NOT meet CARB standards. and I  can ONLY meet Cleveland Co NC safety standards..legally   ( we NOT longer have EPA testing as of 1 OCT 17 on ANY cars or trucks  )  dido what spank said.. just list on ebay.com or cars for sale here and sell outside California..  later bc  www.montearlomini.com

You are best to resell it to someone outside of California as a whole car. You won't get your money back if you part it out.

For sure your vendor knew all along that it can't be registered in California at all... he hid some informations from you., or maybe he thought that you already did your research about registering to cali.
anyway, you need to refund your money.  There was no clause in your signed agreement that it cant be refunded.  Hope you get everything straigtened out.
Give a shout out to thewarewolfie or italian jobber im sure they can help you with your issue. Cali MVD is their second home they know all the current laws with regards to registering a classic mini

CA
Well, that sure is a bummer

First of all make sure it is a true 84 model ( look at stamp on boot plate) week/year of build

If the vendor were to give you a full refund, shipping costs back to Vermont would eat up any profit

Best to resell it out of California, parting it out, will not get you out

Good luck
