The Bug I should be done in a month or two....will post pics....doing a tilt front end, 1275, opening and lockable trunk lid with a bulkhead for security, battery in the boot with a cut-off. Picking up Revolution wheels from Eric next week at the Myrtle Beach British Car show .
Should be a fun ride - if I can fit, but mostly it will be a twin to the Moke, and for my wife to drive.

Hey Peter, how is your Bug Eye coming? Due to a change in storage space I have a sq body side curtain roller which would be great for a vintage car. I also have a 79 Midget some what apart but complete but for the rad. 1500 car with engine and tranny. Both stored inside for years. The 79 has the 3.7 rear end which would be great for a highway car. Also the front suspension and brakes. I have the 79 clear title. after inside storage for 10 years I hate to have them crushed. I think the side curtian shell has the steel wheels with the holes. I'm open to offers or will remove and sell what I can and get rid of the balance.

Removing the brake fitting for the subframe cross over pipe was easy - right through the service window provided. 

The old nut was removed with a chisel and judicious tapping with a big hammer through the little window also.

Peter, how are you going to loosen up the brake line that goes across the front of the sub frame? I guess depending on the 90 degree curve you may have enough room to drop it down and loosen it after the flex hos is disconnected.

Nice idea, I would add a little wicking #290 loctite after, just to be sure. The stuff is runny and will make a green mess if given a chance, a drop on the torn end of a paper match as a brush works well.

Figured out an easy way to do this. 

1) Get a new nut for the line end that goes on top of the front subframe.
2) Carefully, with an 1/8" drill, make 6 little "dimples" at each corner of the hex nut.

     

3) Assemble brake line on wheel cylinder and put the other end through the subframe, add star washer and dimpled nut, then get a 

    hammer and a small punch that fits.  First hand tighten, then snug up with punch and hammer, holding nut underneath also.

        

No need to remove radiator. Easy peasy.

That we could - no problema - it will get done at some point in the future, maybe even this Monday before a little trip to California for visits to some family there.

The grill is not removable. I am thinking of replacing the right side first, then see how much thed slightly (1/2") longer hose gives me in movem ent, then either radiaator pull or short subframe drop if needed.

Correct it is a maroon color. If it is removable it will make life a lot easier when working on it.

I knew he has a UK Moke but I recall the grille being a different color and did not recall if it was changed or not. Steve (CTR)

Peter's Moke is a UK one so if factory it has a non removable grille Steve. The holes in the inner fenders are the same size as the Mini saloon ones and pretty much useless. As this is a fresh build the hoses will not be rusted tight like most but removing the two piece radiator shroud and radiator with the inner fender duct work still in place is a PITA.

It is going to be a mess what ever you do. I'd start by draining the system. put a pvc tube on each bleed screw and open, draining into bottles. I'd also prop the brake pedal half way down and duct tape to pedal and wheel to avoid someone knocking it out. If you have a removable grille you can wedge a chisel between sub frame and nut and break loose from below. Should be new enough to finger spin off from there. I need to visit my Moke to see if there is access in panel for tube nut removal. Steve (CTR)

I know you are not taking a whiz wheel to that beautiful Moke Peter. Loosen up the sub frame and lower it slightly it should give you the room you need. Take an old wrench and bend it to suit the job you need it to do. it is doable but fiddly you may be better off removing the radiator.

Try unbolting the rad from its mounts and flexing the hoses out of the way. Might work short of draining and removing the rad. I doubt you want to bend the inner wing to access it from the wheel side.
