Steve- Slow boat to China ????

Not many of us remember that song

But when l shipped the two mini pick ups (yellow twins) to Australia , Toronto to British Columbia, to OZ via container ship it took 89 days I tracked their progress for a while but after they stopped in every back water port l gave up-

I was just kidding the lady at the post office when I told her " Slow boat to China " would be OK. I am not complaining but wonder what a quick trip would have cost? I'm very glad I am getting around to returning a favor to long over looked. Sorry I could not follow though on the last items I wanted to send you. They were not mine and you can't sell or give away someone else's stuff, regardless of what some will say. I though the customer would sell them to me when he decided not to use. Single HIF 44s have become popular and I'm short them and the plate. I have 5 engine/trannys and four fresh sub frames going now. Thanks Steve (CTR)

Thank you Steve and Norm

Both parts have now arrived.  I very much appreciate it.

The engine these will ultimately be used on is a 1098 that will be installed in my 61 van if I ever get it completed (!)
The engine still needs to come apart as it had dismal oil pressure.

It came in my Woody and still had an ADO16 rad on it....(tight!)

Anyone have an abutment bracket available?

Tracking number on it's way. Went to mail yesterday and did not have time to do paper work before they closed. I had addressed the box just as you emailed me. The lady told me to write Canada below the address so it would not go to Cal. and that they were closed and I'd have to come back. I'd think with the zip or what ever you call your code not much chance of going to Cal. Thanks Steve (CTR)

Don't forget that Metro linkages are a different length to Mini ones.

Alive and well. I had more HIF 38 s than I thought. A bunch of them are from MGB s which make them left and right or front and back. Looks like the ones that are from a mini with the right linkage and air horn have the vacuum line from mounting flange to the float bowl. This is a leaning feature. I have found it works best to cap the spigots or plug the small hose.

Due to weather in Texas ( DHL phone center located in Huston ) I ended up at the shop open to close two days last week. I must be there to sign for packages and he didn't show till almost 5 on friday. I will get to post office today. Steve (CTR)

I have made up a set of tools for rebushing the rod change housing. The shift eye once again is not cheap. I have thought about bushing the housing on hand and offering them exchange. Would be cheaper than shipping the whole unit. Some units come with a plastic bush and once that is worn out the housing bore starts to go out of round. I ream to a common size press bushing in and ream in line. Quite often the shaft needs to be flipped end for end or replaced due to wear and rust. I need to order a length of cold roll or drill rod and make up shafts. Guess what some are a different length.

Edit: I have also done a few of the conversions, I set the shift eye up in the lathe bore it out to accept a spherical bearing. Then press the ball off the shifter itself. The ball is held in place by a few raised grooves pressed into the shifter shaft. These must be polished off so the shaft will pass though the bearing.

Two new parts posted for sale!
I thought I had already sold everything I had, but found these two hiding in amongst other things...

Steering column drop bracket ($9), new, in original box.

Rod Change shift assembly, used, worn, included with $50 of new bushings I'd bought from Grainger in an experiment to figure out how to re-bush the housing.  If anyone would like to work with this, I am letting it go for $150 (our host has brand new ones for $400, and used ones from salvage yards go for around $200, so I am really just trying to get rid of this old one from my storage).

I have several HIF 38s and the best one is yours. send me your mailing address. I have not run any of these carbs but I'm sure a kit would do any of them up. I don't have the heat shield for one though. Do you also need the air horn for it? Steve (CTR)

I take it you want a four bolt HIF 38. If Norm can ship you the manifold I will supply the carb and pay his shipping and mine. Email me an address that will work. ( when the customer picked up his car the first thing he ask for was the bat wing mirrors ) I was always concerned that might happen. Steve (CTR)

RATS, I was hoping this last, final part would find a home.

Anyone want to keep this manifold from the recycle bin?  Drop me a line and its yours (for $15 postage).
