Skier, if you're still checking this disintegrating thread, you should make it your business to get to New Paltz July 2,3 4 5. It's Mini Meet East.  This year close to you.  I'm sure they will be a few dozen minis for you to check out and talk to all the owners. Someone might even want to sell one.  Look on this site for info on MME.  BTW, do you have a budget in mind?  I"m on LI and come across cars fairly regularly.

There are two minis locally here in Chester, CT, that I have seen recently.  A white with blue top, looks like a 998, or mini 1000 vintage.  Also a similar vintage in blue with black & white checkerboard roof.  Also, once I saw a later model Sportspack in BRG, if I recall correctly.  I wonder if there will be any good deals at MME next month?  I don't have a garage, but it could live in the tiny carport, and go to inside storage in the winter....

Geoff is still living in New Jersey but he doesn't frequent this forum any longer. He sold his Bugeye racer a number of years ago, and it was shipped back to the U.K. by the new owner. Last time I saw him was a few years ago when we got together in NJ at the Healey Encounter. We had a ball.

Hi Howard!  It was Lamb shanks and Lentils, not pork, mate!!  Yeah, we had some good times together, the bunch of us!  Like when you conned the track workers to let us onto the track at Watkins Glen, at minis at the Glen?  You convinced them that we were next, and they let us have an unplanned and very brisk fast-parade lap of the circuit!  And what a blast running the old road course, nearly as fast as we could!! I had the metal flake copper mini then, IIRC?  Then at East meets West, when you and Neil helped me change out the busted lug nuts that had been overtorqued; for the timed laps at Blackhawk Raceway, where DAEK got 3rd in class! Is Geoff, the Bugeye racer from NJ still around?  He drove DAEK out to Chicago, while I flew in to save time..  Cheers mate!

Nickname is "Billy Backstay", not the other way around.  Given to my by an Aussie boat Captain who I was Mate/Cook with, for a short while, in '79, on a 53 foot charter Ketch.  Because my previous career was a yacht rigger, backstay was appropriate.  He was an arsehole who kept running the boat aground, so I quit in Bermuda and lived on Ted Turners former boat "Tenacious", for a few months, before heading down island to Antigua......

Time warp alert !!!!!!

Looks like we just fell back 10 years in time, even without a Delorean but this is the way it was back then

Now if only Peter Mustang would jump in here we could have a 3 way slag LOL

Backstay is a part of a sailing boat l am told, hence Backstay Billy, who l am proud to call my friend except I DON'T like his politics

Not true. I've always taken mine to any emissions test location for simply a vin verification. They don't do a safety inspection in CT. The techs are always so excited to see the car anyways that they barely remember to look at the vin.
Drew, as usual BC is blowing it out his ass, with is feigned knowledge of "everything" about all other places "everywhere". To his credit, he does have a very large trove of very valuable knowledge, which is often useful.  Unfortunately his bombastic A***ry, masks all of that, most of the time. If I were you, I would suck up to him, be his friend, and get as much valuable info as possible, but like Nixon said, always "Trust, but Verify"!

I have not been involved in 10 or 15 years, but back then, one of the local inspectors did regale me of his visit to the UK and would just wave me through.  But the other local inspector in the same Old Saybrook DMV would always bust my balls, and did send me to Wethersfield once or twice, and had to do total safety inspection, once that I recall.

But, this is ancient history now, and may be totally different, for all I know.  So kiss Bill Cox ass, let him regale you with his knowledge, but check things out on your own, as well.
