If in fact importing cars has become harder if not very difficult I can't help but think the value of the cars already here will go up. I still love working on the little cars. This past year due to a heart attack, two strokes and a couple of other serious health issues I have lost all my local help I have worked with for years. I have spent hours talking with anyone with skills about helping me. When Bill died he had three of my cars in his shop. Dealing with the lawyers and his estate I was able to get two back and can bid on the one I could not prove is mine. I guess time will tell. Steve (CTR)

cooper tune racing.. new rules are called SCAC.  all parts MUST meet DOT regs and have DOT marking..  I was told several companies have major trouble with containers been on VACIS intensive hold for MONTHS.. over these new rules..  been in effect since 1 july 16..  even thought they are cars OVER 25 years and older..  and yes CBP is enforcing very strict rules now on ALL british cars. like Land rover defenders and Classic minis.. evreything MUST be OEM.. including engines . trannys. windscreen and seatbelts. headlights..  later bc

Are there actually new rules or just a new understanding and enforcement of what the law on the books is?

From what I just read through the Shorty thread is the fact that NHTSA is pissed off that they got schooled. Because of this they are now interpreting and enforcing the laws a lot stricter than they did before. My question is whether NTHSA inspects every vehicle that is imported or is up to someone at the port to inspect and then tell NHTSA?

As a guy who only works on classic minis I know very well the cost of repairing and or restoring a classic. While not in house I'm also in touch with paint and body repairs. Clearly the best value is buying one already done. If what I have read is true it does not seem there wil be many classics crossing the pond. Just wondering what others think. Steve (CTR)
