When I was a kid and first learned that the hazard switch could cause such a failure it was a bit of an eye opener.

I am glad this helped you.

We shall see each other again at a mini meet sometime.

Murry,
Many Thanks you for the article, was searching for the same solution on a 76 Clubman where the turn signals did not work, but the flashers were working fine. Had it not been for your article, I do not think I would have been able to source the problem on my own. I pulled the switch out, and checked it with a meter, and sure enough, it checked out bad. Got the new switch installed, and we now have turn signals. Now, onto getting the horn to work!
And, I owe you a drink when I see you.

I wrote this a few years ago:

Now, I have no idea what exact harness you are replacing the original with, but the Society of Automotive Engineers in the U.K. made a plan for wiring colours, so that the colours are the same in a mini or a cortina or a vauxhall. This means that in your case, you can look at a few pages of mini wiring diagrams and sort out the differences your new harness has.

Having said that, it sure sounds to me like you have a short circuit when you turn the signals switch to the right turn. Begin by tracking down that problem. Disconnect the switch and use a jumper wire with an inline fuse and power the right signals and see if it blows the fuse. It could be a pinched wire or maybe a failure in a bulb socket. It could also be the switch.

I really liked the dash of 1976 Canadian cars, with all four rocker switches being lit up. Those switches are very fragile, especially the hazard switch, but the originals with their green lenses looked great. Since those hazard switches were so brittle, maybe your switch has some attempt at repair that is no longer working out. That could also be your problem.

in any case, read through that article, check the actual right hand signal circuit for problems and you should be on your way to sorting this out.

Hello, I've got a 76 LHD Canadian mini 1000. I purchase a wiring harness from the host and have been slowly getting it wired to the car. I've been fighting with getting the signal lights working and am at a stand still. I  can get the left signal to work from the signal switch however when I turn the right signal on the wire gets very hot which makes me think I have wired my hazards in somehow. I've looked at wiring diagrams and none seem to be exactly right the the harness that I have. Any help that can be offered on how to properly wire the turn signals and hazards properly would be greatly appreciated.
